The National Catholic Forensic League offers a annual national tournament over Memorial Day weekend. Not to be confused with the National Speech & Debate Association, NCFL's "Grand National Tournament" has a unique format of competition, a few different events, and a different method of qualifying.
NO, students do not need to be Catholic to compete at this tournament, and the competition is open to all schools - private and public!
The St. Louis Diocese of the NCFL does not hold a qualifying tournament. Instead, coaches enter 'bids' of their students to the local Diocesan who then has a panel of impartial coaches evaluate the bids. Students who receive the most votes from the impartial coaches subsequently qualify to the NCFL's Grand National Tournament.
The St. Louis NCFL Diocesan is Randy Pierce, who can be reached at randebate@aol.com.
Randy is the "go to" for all things NCFL in our area!
