Eastern Missouri NSDA Alumni Achievement Award
The Alumni Achievement Award recognizes a graduate for significant personal achievements or contributions in public service. Our hope is that the skillset honed in high school Speech & Debate continues to help our alumni impact the world long after their high school careers have ended.
2021 Alumni Achievement Award
Edward Wu, Ladue Horton Watkins HS, Class of 2018
Since graduating high school, Edward Wu has been heavily involved in local politics. After his freshman year of college, he worked for a Democratic strategy and public relations firm, where he had the opportunity to apply his communication skills to messaging for Democratic candidates and issues. This sparked a desire to continue working for voters and ensure that candidates who care deeply about people are elected.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced Edward to return home after a year in Washington DC. While in St. Louis, Edward went to work for the Jill Schupp campaign, starting as a phone banking volunteer, then a cohort leader for her student mobilization and organization program, and then became a field organizer after the primary election.
After the November election, Edward moved to Georgia to work with a coordinated team to help Reverend Raphael Warnock and John Ossoff were elected to the US Senate.
Edward does exactly what Eastern Missouri coaches hope our alumni do - he uses his voice to advocate for a better world. Edward is a fantastic role model for current competitors and a wonder example of what it looks like to engage in empowered advocacy for something that truly matters.
Because of this, Eastern Missouri is proud to bestow the 2021 Alumni Achievement Award on Edward Wu!
